I spent the last ten days in Portugal! I participated in the 46th ICTM World Conference, hosted by INET, the Institute for Ethnomusicology of the New University of Lisbon. I presented my paper, “Dancing the Video Archive: Tracing Irish Dance Style and Repertoire in Archival Database Practices,” as part of the Practices of Dance Archiving panel with co-panelists presenting about Bulgarian folk dance, folk dance archives in Norway, and classical Indian dance.
I also took advantage of being in a new country, of course. I explored Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro, and Sintra. I loved trying new foods and hearing new music, especially Cape Verdean morna at the Malandro do Marquês restaurant and Portuguese fado at Café Luso. I also made some new friends and got to co-teach a frevo class with fellow Mexe Com Tudo teacher, Franja, in Aveiro!
